Now…let me ask you a question…do you understand the times in which we live? This is what I mean…there seems to be a lot of people that think that the Bible is a good book, a moral book and even an important book, but they do not think it is God’s word…they do not think that it is authoritative…that it gives direction for their lives. Now, there are lots of reasons for that type of thinking…some people think all religions are the same, some people think that religion was made so to keep people oppressed…however, my own personal opinion is this…the reason many people do not believe the Bible is God’s word is this….it is because there are too many people in the church that live their lives like it is not God’s word!

40 Days in the Word:
How Do I Know the Bible is
God’s Word?

2 Tim. 3:16-17 (NIV) 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Ps. 119:86 (NIV) All your commands are trustworthy…

I can trust the Bible because:

  1. It is historically accurate

Heb. 6:18 (NIV) …it is impossible for God to lie…
Ps. 33:4 (NIV) The Word of the Lord is right and true…

 2.  It is scientifically accurate
Ps. 148:5-?6 (NIV) 5 Let them praise the name of the Lord, for he commanded and they were created. 6 He set them in place for ever and ever; he gave a decree that will never pass away.

For 1000’s of years everyone believed:

  • The earth was flat
Isa. 40:22 (NIV) 22 He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in.
  • The earth had to be held up
Job 26:7 (NIV) 7 He spreads out the northern skies over empty space; he suspends the earth over nothing.
  • The number of stars could be counted
Jer. 33:22 (NIV) 22 I will make the descendants of David my servant and the Levites who minister before me as countless as the stars of the sky and as measureless as the sand on the seashore.’”
  • Too much blood made you sick
Lev. 17:11 (NIV) 11 For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one’s life
25% of all Europe died in bubonic plague in the Middle ages
Lev. 13:4 (NIV) 4 If the spot on his skin is white but does not appear to be more than skin deep and the hair in it has not turned white, the priest is to put the infected person in isolation for seven days.
Prov. 30:5 (NIV) 5 “Every word of God is flawless; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him.

 3.  It’s prophetically accurate
2 Peter 1:21 (NIV) 21 For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Rev. 22:6 (NIV) 6 The angel said to me, “These words are trustworthy and true. The Lord, the God of the spirits of the prophets, sent his angel to show his servants the things that must soon take place.”

4.
It is thematically unified
Luke 24:27 (NIV) 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he explained to them what was said in all the Scriptures concerning himself.
John 5:39 (NIV) 39 You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me

 5.It’s confirmed by Jesus
Mt. 5:18 (NIV)   18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished.

6.It has survived all attacks
Mt. 24:35 (NIV) 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

7.It has transforming power
John 8:31-32 (NIV) 31 To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
Rom. 12:2 (NIV) 2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Memory Verse: Col. 3:16 (NIV) 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
