Passage: Luke 7:36-50
Series: At The Table
Duration: 41 mins 37 secs
This morning I want to talk to you about brokenness. BROKENNESS AT THE TABLE. Have you come to the place where you realize that all of us are broken? Several months back, I posted on Facebook that we are all broken. Someone, who is not a Christian, who read that post got upset. He could not believe that I would say that we are all broken in some way. The truth is...we are all broken...it is just that some of us do not know it or accept it.

We are beginning a new series called AT THE TABLE. Have you ever noticed how Jesus used the Lunch Table or the Dinner Table…to teach about the Kingdom of God? When Jesus was AT THE TABLE…there was joy AT THE TABLE… there was feasting AT THE TABLE! There was teaching AT THE TABLE! There was controversy AT THE TABLE! Why? Because Jesus was AT THE TABLE!

Duration: 46 mins 3 secs
As most of you know, I do substitute teaching. Now, occasionally…when I am teaching a class there are a few students who are not paying attention. They are not focused on the lesson. They are bored or they are sleeping. They would rather be somewhere else! They are in class because they are forced to be there! Maybe their parents make them come. Maybe it is the law. But this is what I know…these kids are not learning, they are not growing, and they are not excited about what I am trying to teach them. How many of you have ever been that way? Now, if you take that same student and give them a video game or a tool or take them swimming, or something that gets them excited…they are no longer bored! Why? Because they are engaged! What they are doing excites them! The want to learn more! They want to do better! They want to tell their friends about their accomplishments! I fixed my car or truck or motorcycle! I reached this level in this game! You get the idea…right? They are engaged in the activity!

Hot Button Issues!

Why is Christian leadership a hot button issue? Because Christian leadership…is different than other types of leadership! You see…other leaders are not led by the Spirit…they are not required to be compassionate! They are not required to be forgiving! They can be immoral and greedy! Other types of leaders are not trying to represent Christ! They are not required to offer mercy! They are not required to be loving and patient! Now, I am not saying that worldly leaders cannot have some of those characteristics. What I am saying is that Christian leadership…is REQUIRED to have those characteristics!

Today I want to talk to you about eternity! Many people in the world do not believe in eternity. Why is it so easy for us as Americans to believe that heaven is real but not believe that hell is for real? The idea of hell for a lot of people is offensive, it doesn't make sense to them that a loving God would create a horrible place like hell. The Bible is clear about the judgment of God! It is clear that God is just! It is clear that we are warned about Hell!
